Long-distance move from Gloucestershire to Gloucestershire

Little removal company

Elizabeth Bavister

just now

New

Appalling service. Packing not completed and possessions just thrown into boxes without care. Items mixed up and boxes not properly labelled. Cutlery tipped over the top of crockery. Bathroom goods jumbled together with hair pins, toothbrushes, perfumes, just chucked in on top

Several items of sentimental value broken through lack of proper wrapping

Unloading was haphazard and careless and boxes were stacked on top of softer items that were squashed, and the piles were unsteady. Paintwork scratched.

We needed a rescue team for the removal, as the first driver hurt his wrist, and also proceeded to have a shouting match with a delivery driver outside our new house, which was embarrassing, and from then it became better. The new team knew what they were doing, at last. James and Jay I can praise and thank, but I could not possibly recommended the company.

Missing and broken belongings. Insurance Con.

If I could leave no stars I would. Horredeous company. Missing and broken belongings!
They will probably try to palm my review off as being ‘fake’ like I have seen them do while reading various reviews across different sites.
The full type 1 insurance they offer is fake, it quite simply does not exist, well not in our terrible experience.
One of their men started to take down our £950 dinning table warned by his college “that’s a 2 man job leave it”
As he carried on by himself he dropped and smashed the table to pieces cutting himself all over.
Not only was the table and stand damaged but also a complete Health and safety hazard. I’m thankful I didn’t have my new baby in there at the time.
The removal men told us
“not to worry you are type 1 fully insured, call the office and they will replace your table”
So we did, we sent off all information and receipt of our table trusting and expecting an easy replacement at fault of the little removals company.
2 days later after no response and a lot of chasing we were told that we didn’t have insurance. Hang on.. yes we did, we asked for it and sent all our forms for it. We wouldn’t have done the move without it! The little removals company told us we were fully covered. They said because they didn’t take an additional payment (their fault) we wasn’t covered. If this is the case why didn’t Emma, Danielle or any other who works in the office ask us for this knowing full well we had sent off all our forms stating we wanted type 1 insurance that covers each individual item at its full true original cost.
No fault on our behalf what-so-ever.
So they offered us £40 as per their terms per item. We didn’t take these terms therefore we will not accept this payment.
Getting a reply takes a while, emails are so disregarding with only the information they want to provide and none of which you actually ask for.
They have withheld all information I have asked for regarding claims paper work and addresses.
Questions do not get answered and especially as soon as proof is provided.
We have photographs, all emails every bit of proof you can imagine.
To add to this we had a bag of clothes on our driveway that was never delivered to us at our new home. The next day my partner had a tweet saying “thank you for your football match shirt, my dads company did your move yesterday” we didn’t approve nor consent to any such stealing.
They then went on to BLOCK my partner on twitter after he told them he would let people know never to use the little removals company.
Total scam of a company. Undoubtedly misleading. Not even remotely transparent like they try to say they are. Company seen as dissolved on the GOV site under one of their many addresses and also the little removals company are not associate with BAR.
Now we have to take further legal action for a complete fault from the little removals company leaving us without a dinning table to eat at in the meantime and a completely stressful start to being in our new home.
Verdict: STAY WELL CLEAR OF THE LITTLE REMOVALS COMPANY!

This review is full of misleading and false information.

The items you say were stolen, and then received a tweet from the thief’s son boasting? Does that seem the kind of thing a thief would do? If so, perfect. Give that information to the police and case closed, as we have suggested.

Until that time we suggest you refrain from your defamatory comments. As a ‘public figure’ a defamatory case would be Strong with these unfounded and unproven comments.

Especially as you have emailed/blackmailed us to settle. Otherwise, you’ll..

“ I will slaughter your company name and advise everyone to never ever even consider going with your company, I will kindly ask many of my high level professional friends to also share this story on there accounts where then 100’s of thousands of people will get to read and find out just how your company treat people, I would much prefer for the costs of my table to be given back to me but if they are not then these are the actions”

That’s social media blackmail to give into your demands even though we believe that you are in the wrong and were contractually bound to make sure you had the correct insurance. You might want to reread the contract. Properly.

Whilst we are sorry your table was damaged you did not extend the insurance as it states in our terms.

Our contract is so clear it’s confusing how you couldn’t have understood it. You signed it and put an initial to say you understood it. You must request insurance and pay for that insurance before the move takes place. You weren’t quoted it and you didn’t pay for it.

We are insured for goods in transit, public liability and all removals and business insurance. As it says in our terms you have to extend our liability. As is the same with just about all removals companies.

Again, if you’d actually read that you’d see the summery of insurance from the underwriters.

We will vigorously defend ourselves and our terms. We will also be filing a counterclaim for defamation.

Friendly and Efficient Removal Experience

Ours wasn’t a big move - 10-15 minutes journey that the two chaps had to make twice. The cost was reasonable and the guys were friendly, respected social distancing and got on with the job. We moved from a 3-storey 4-bed to a 2-stored 4-bed so moving us in was easier than moving us out, but nothing was damaged - furniture or walls. We would highly recommend using this company.

Beware insurance.

The actual move went well, the men were friendly and worked hard but then we found one armchair had been damaged. Because the fabric was no longer available, this would mean a complete re-upholster which would cost around £500.

During the initial negotiations, I had received notes stating "contents of all our trucks are insured for £50,000", then later we were asked to complete an summary inventory and estimated value for lounge furniture, dining room furniture, bedroom furniture, white-goods etc. which I assumed was for insurance purposes (why else would they need it?).

When I claimed for the damaged chair, I was referred to section 8.1.4.2 (or similar) of their standard T&Cs - which meant I was entitled to a maximum of £40 compensation for each item damaged. Sadly, Little Removals Company would not budge on this - so any money I saved by using them was more than lost repairing the damaged chair.
CHECK YOUR INSURANCE BEFORE USING THESE PEOPLE.

Official company response

Hi, Harry.

Thanks for your comments here, it's good to share your experience so other don't make the same mistake.

We've put a lot of effort into creating very clear terms without any small print, we also have written a short but very precise note to explain the terms which may get misinterpreted. We also insist the customer initial that paragraph and also sign each part of the contract, so the customer can not come back to us with we didn't point it out correctly. You've completed your contract, maybe you missed this bit?

To 100% secure your booking date this docusign contract must be signed.

We have a limited liability to £40 per item (box), as per clause B of our terms.

We can arrange insurance of your effects for your convenience providing you complete the inventory and declare to us the full value of goods being moved and/or stored. As the terms state, it is your responsibility to ensure you have the level of insurance cover you require.

Failure to sign these terms will result in our liability being limited as per clause 8 of our terms at a maximum of £40 per item/box.

The above terms are standard across the industry, not every company would go to the effort we do to make sure the customer signs and agrees to the terms.

We do apologise the insurance company wouldn't pay out in your case, but they insist on all the i's dotted and all the t's crossed.

Long-distance move from Oxford, Oxfordshire to Bedford, Bedfordshire

4 hours late - a nightmare.

A driver called in sick. No notification until after the van was due. No plan or indication of when anything would happen. I was continually chasing on the phone and when times were promised, they would pass with no information.

The van turned up 4 hours late and the job itself only took 4.5 hours, so nearly 50% delay. Efficient job totally spoilt by the stress and uncertainty.

Discount of 20% suggested, but only 10% given.

Service cost: £450

Official company response

Hi.

Sorry for the delay, but we were extremely busy.

Often we can't give out accurate times for arrival in this type of situation as we have to find replacement staff and make sure what we tell you is accurate. It's a shame you didn't see maybe more than one star was deserved. We turned up, albeit late, but as mentioned a situation out of our control. We did an efficient job once we got there and gave you a 10% discount. You hear so many stories of companies not having the staff and then just leaving the customer high and dry..

We showed up, did a good job and gave you a discount.

I'd make that 3 starts really.

Do NOT use this company.

Avoid like the plague.

What should have been a stress-free day was ruined by them only providing 2 vans for our move after promising us 3. The management of the company, notably Danielle Roche-Galvin, were singularly useless in responding to our request for a 3rd van, despite numerous calls. We ended up having to unload the vans at our new property, then taking one van back to our old property, by which time our buyer had moved in, and having to load the 3rd van until late into the evening, finally returning to our new property and unloading the van at about 10.30pm.

The whole point of getting them to pack was so we didn't have to. The day before the move, they turned up with enough packing materials for about half our belongings, and had to leave by lunch time, having run out of boxes.

On the move date, a different team turned up, unaware that the packing hadn't been completed. Anecdotal evidence from the removal team suggested that this sort of treatment from Danielle Roche-Galvin happens a lot. They were profusely apologetic, and they stuck with us until everything was complete. Helpful hard-working movers, let down by terrible disinterested incompetent management. I have attached the report I sent the company.

Terrible Treatment.

I used this company to move from Oxford to London and it was a terrible experience. The staff who came to do the removal were friendly but they broke my furniture. Despite all this the manger was rude when she was talking to me and eventually she only accepted to compensate 40 pounds for a whole wordrope that worth 450 pounds. They actually broke many parts of it and I expected to receive a compensation for all parys of it but I did not. Moreover, they pre-authorised the whole payment few days before removal and they took the payment one day after the removal without even sending an invoice. Sending an invoice was particularly important because they said in their quote that they will try to minimise the amount that customer has to pay which means that they needed to finalise the amount after the removal. At first, you get impressed by their kindness over the phone and their quick action in setting the appointment for removal. Then later you experience their disrespect to their customers. They were after anything but customer satisfaction. I would not recommend it ever.

Official company response

Hi.
Sorry to hear you feel your experience wasn't as good as it should have been. However, we do very very clearly state and ask the customer to initial the contract where we ask customers to take out insurance. The £40 limited liability is standard across the industry.

With regard to our charging for the move one day after the move, we send all of our customers an invoice when we take payment. We take payment on completion, we feel this is better than charging customers three days before the move which is standard for the removals industry.

Great staff.

We hired 2 men and a van for a 2 bed local house move. The move took 6 hours total including dismantling and assembling some furniture. It was a small move but fiddly. We chose the company because it was the best quote we received. The company was very easy to deal with. The guys were very cheerful, calm, pleasant and competent even when we got stressed. Nothing was too much trouble. We hope they are well paid. The only quibble was that if the company equipped them with the right tools the furniture assembly would have been quicker and easier for them. Not every house has a decent toolbox.

Great Service.

Amazing service! This company turned up on time, with clean presentable looking vehicles and friendly and hardworking members of staff.
The day was stress free. They took very good care of my belongings and packed them to a high standard. The removal itself was quick and efficient and the guys on the day were very polite and courteous and reassembled 3 beds and 3 wardrobe in no time at all.
I felt very valued as a customer of this company as everything was completed to their highest standards, so I would definitely recommend them and use them again myself!

Professional people.

I used them twice and both times:
they were on time, very quick, friendly, professional and also they did the best quote in the area what it is one of the most important things.
I know removals could be really stress thing to do but they look after all my items and move them carefully. So pleased with them and I wouldn't doubt in contact them again.
I definitely would recomended them to my friend and family.
